UConn’s Phillips Communication Sciences Building (PCSB) is a place to access research facilities and faculty offices for students majoring in communication processes or communication disorders. For the fMRI Acquisition and Installation project, Carlin Construction oversaw a diverse set of work including demolition of specific site elements, exterior wall openings and doors, interior walls and partitions, interior finishes and all associated mechanical and electrical systems. An existing transformer and associated primary/secondary feeders were also demolished, and replaced with the additional switchgear to provide the PCSB with new electrical service.

Additionally, the construction of new site elements included an exterior areaway with stairs and screening/landscaping for mechanical and electrical equipment. Building envelope modifications included new windows, a storefront system, exterior wall repairs and rooftop equipment screens. Installation of structural steel framing on the existing structure provides new floor areas, along with support for the new rooftop equipment. Work for new interior spaces included interior vision panels and casework.
